Financial support for the creation of this website was provided by the Cyril Capling Trust Fund of the College of Agriculture and Bioresources, and the Department of Plant Sciences.

Thanks to our friends at Meewasin Valley Authority for helping to spread wood mulch in the arboretum, cutting the grass, pruning shrubs, and installing our northeast culvert.

Friends of Patterson Garden Arboretum Fund

Plant bioversity is becoming an increasing concern for the entire planet due to climate change, habitat loss, and the spread of pests and diseases. Patterson Arboretum is dedicated to doing our part by preserving woody plant species of Saskatchewan, Canada, and the northern regions of the world, helping to ensure a healthy environment for future generations. In addition to the preservation of species, we are also one of the few sites maintaing woody plant varieties developed by pioneer plant breeders, part of the horticultural heritage of the Prairie Provinces.

The University of Saskatchewan is working to rejuvenate, preserve, maintain and expand Patterson Garden Arboretum. New plants for trial are added each year, propagated from wild source seed whenever possible or obtained from botanical gardens and arboreta across the northern hemisphere. Older specimens in the collection are actively preserved through vegetative propagation if possible. While some trees have reached maturity and passed on, others can be expected to live for hundreds of years, increasing in interest and beauty with each passing season.

Donations are being accepted for the Friends of Patterson Garden Fund. Expansion plans for the arboretum have been drawn up and new specimens will be added as space becomes available.
